Hi all moms,

My son just went to his 15 month old checkup. His Dr gave us a list of things for his daily food. I am thinking about changing his breakfast, we still serve him baby oatmeal cereal with fruit. Do you have any advice on cooking breakfast AND meals (dinner & lunch) for me? Thank you so much in advance for your help.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

D.

My daughter is 15 months old and she has been for awhile now eating the same meal that my husband and I do. I would recommend giving him a plate of his own with the same foods that you have just cut up in small bite size pieces. My daughter also within the last month as learned how to use a fork and spoon, with troubles yet, but she really prefers to use them over her fingers now. At this age they really like to do what mommy and daddy are doing.

I have a 15 month old, and he loves things he can eat by himself... usually with his hands. His favorites are french toast (cut up in small pieces), Cheerios and scrambled eggs with cheese. We sometimes do the french toast for dinner, too.

at this age you want to start them off with cereal cherios give it to them dry, gradually you can start to add milk to it and feed them. pancakes very small peices. I know when my son was this young we started off with these things. Also yougurt, my son loves it. hope these ideas work for you. Just think of what you eat and start your child off with small servings to get him/her used to what you eat.

I make a large pot of old-fashioned oatmeal every few days, keep it in the fridge and just reheat it in the microwave for breakfast (I work full time so I don't have time to make real oatmeal every morning). Whole grain oatmeal cooked with milk or soy milk is very healthy and a great breakfast for babies to adults. Cold cereal in milk is also a good option because it gets a little mushy.

Otherwise, I agree with feeding your child whatever you are eating, modified for chewing. Soups are great vehicles for veggies as is pasta with red sauce. Beans and rice and avocado is another favorite over here.

Good luck!

if he is a good eater, you can give him pretty much the same foods you eat...try whole wheat waffles, pancakes, eggs, sausage, yougurt, bananas...make sure the pieces are small and sit right by him if he has any problems. lunch same thing: mini grilled cheese, cut up turkey or chicken, small pieces of beans, peas, ravioli, mac and cheese, spagehetti...

Honestly, we serve and have served our kids whatever it is that we are eating for the meal. Some exceptions of course due to the chewability. Breakfast can be cold cereal, oatmeal, eggs, sausage, toast; whatever you are eating.

Does he eat this food himself..with his own spoon, etc? At 15 mos he can and should be serving himself his food. As other posters said..just whatever you are having and cut into smaller bites if you need to...but no special meals need to be offered really, just make sure its all well rounded!

Your 15 month old can eat anything you do. Just make sure it's small enough and nothing her can choke on. Such as uncooked carrots, whole grapes, hot dogs, etc. Waffles, pancakes, fruits, veggies and any other type of finger food is great. My little one is about 19 months now and is starting to feed herself with a spoon. She eats everything we do. We do not makea seperate meal for her. We just give it to her cut up and she eats with her fingers or a spoon.
