12 Week Ultrasound and Fetus Barely Moving!

I just had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks pregnant. We could see baby and beating heart, but it only moved once or twice during the exam. I was concerned because when we had a 13 week ultrasound with my first, he was having a party in there! My family practitioner kept saying, "normal 10-weeker". But I'm 12 weeks!! I'm starting to worry about my baby. Has anyone else had a 12 week ultrasound with little fetal movement?

The baby most likely was sleeping. We had several ultrasounds to monitor a complication. Sometimes the baby was moving around and sometimes he was resting. Newborns sleep a lot and so do fetuses! He/she didn't know you were watching and that he/she needed to be moving around!

The other poster was right about the way pregnancy weeks are calculated. Strange and I don't know why they measure it that way, but sounds like you are right on target.

Hi M.....
I am just writing to let you know that I had movement at first with my second one and then at about 4-5 months he didnt have much movement. They told me not to worry to much and then they started doing Non-stress tests on me and the baby and finally would get him to move. I am only 10 weeks right now and will post something when i get to the 12 week ultra sound.

It could have been during your baby's rest time. Next time, drink something sweet prior to your ultrasound. I've had slow swimmers at a couple of ultrasounds (and I've had close to 12 with five kids!!) It usually doesn't work till closer to twenty weeks, but there are at home fetal heart rate monitors. When the babies are really small, there are sometimes discrepencies in dates. Hang in tight there. If you're concerned, contact your doctor, do not wait for your next appointment. They're used to dealing with pregnant mother's concerns. Congratulations on have your kiddos close together! I wish you the best in your pregnancy.

First off, Congrats on your pregnancy! How exciting! Okay, it's totally normal for the baby to be still. My baby iddn't move at that stage and every child is different, even in the womb. I know you're 12 weeks pregnant, but actually the baby is only 10 weeks. You're pregnancy starts from the first day of your last period, when you couldn't possibly be pregnant. You conceive roughly two weeks later. That's just the way it works. I don't know why, it just is what it is. So, don't worry. Your baby is just fine. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Good Luck!

I had 3 ultra sounds in one day once. I was even sent over to a specialist they couldn't find my baby. Told me I'd miscarry and so on. When I didn't miscarry I went back and we found her alright. I don't trust ultra sounds.....

Also I hardly ever felt my daughter kick throughout my pregnancy. I just never felt her, I guess my placenta was in the wrong place or something so that's why I wasn't feeling her but in the end I have a perfectly normal child now.

I had a 12 week u/s when I was pregnant with DS. Honestly, I don't remember him moving at all during the u/s. He just stayed in one position and let us take pics. He never was much of a "kicker", and mostly would just stretch as hard as he could against my belly. And now he's a laid-back, happy 11 month old.

my first hardly ever moved...I would have to push on my tummy for some time before he would move...

the second was the opposite...

remember even in the womb they are two different children so not everything is going to be the same.

I have a 2 year old and I just had my second. My son (the 2 year old) moved SO much in my tummy. On both ultrasounds he was moving a ton. My daughter barely moved during our ultrasound and she hardly kicked at all- especially compared to my son who practically kicked through my stomach! :) So, I was worried the whole time I was pregnant. But she is just fine, just a mellow little girl. I think some babies are just different. (Maybe you are having a girl?) :)
