I have a 10 month old son, who just won't sleep through the night. He doesn't just get up once or twice a night. He gets up A LOT! The other night, between 1 am and 4 am he was getting up almost every 20 min. He wakes up screaming and crying, and won't stop. I will try everything from a bottle to just letting him cry. Nothing is working. He doesn't want a bottle, or his pacifier, and he won't cry himself back to sleep. I will rock him trying to calm him down, and he will finanly fall asleep. But then he will wake up again 20 to 30 minutes later. Please help.... this has been going on for about 2 weeks now. I work full time and now I am getting about 1 to 2 hours asleep myself a night.... Any advice?

What can I do next?

If you haven't tried them already get those natural teething tablets. They are safe for the baby and knock them out. I used them when my little guys molars were coming in. He got all of he teeth very early and then got his first year molars between 18-20 months and it was MISERABLE! I feel for ya!

Do you have your son in daycare? The reason that I ask is because I experienced the same thing with my oldest son until he was 2 years old. He was displaying all of the behavior of your son and my pediatritian told me that it was night terrors, and I needed to find out what was triggering them. Now, I am in no way saying "this is what's causing your sons night terrors" but my son was being abused by a day care attendant at a local day care. He was removed from the day care when he was 18 months old (as soon as I found out) and the night terrors continued nightly until he was 2 years old. He's 3 1/2 now and they do still occur, but maybe once every 2-3 months. That's better than the everynight.

Hi S.,
My little guy went through the same thing when he was that age and it turned out that he was getting 4 teeth at once! When I figured out what was wrong, I would give him some kind of painkiller before bed and he slept through the night again.
Hope that helps.

Either at walmart or Babies'r'us they make this bear that plays the sounds of the womb and of classical music. Let me tell you, it worked wonders with my son at night. Also, a couple times a week try sleeping with one of his blankets. Then put him to bed with it the other nights. The smell of your body and the sounds of the womb are very soothing to children of this age. Give it a try and let me know how it works out for you. Also, try using Johnson and Johnsons lavendar body wash and lotion. The smell of the lavendar is calming and soothing.

I have 12 month old with similar sleep patterns. His pediatrician attributes it to teething. When I give him pain reliever right before bed it helps tremendously. It has improved as more teeth have cut through. Good luck to you - it's so rough.

It could be alot of things, such as teeth, or my son went through night terrors. He seemed like he was awake to us but his brain was not awake, and basically we had to let himself kick and scream til he got to a point where myself and my husband were not scaring him. This is something that they do outgrow, but not much more you can do for them.
I would check to make sure it isnt teeth though, as he is at the age where more teeth start coming in, and teething is totally rotten, im just glad us adults dont have to go through it.
Good luck

Hi, Since he does not want his bottle or pacifer, I will wager to guess that it is teething, or a hidden ear infection.

My daugher had a hidden ear infection for several months. She finally had tubes placed when she was 10 months old. The reason that it took so long to diagnose was because her first pediatrition was too lazy to dig some wax out of her ear that was covering upo the drum.

If it is due to teething, some tylenol along with teething tablets or topical teething gel may help.

Gook luck
