My baby is 1month old and has a rash everywhere cheeks, forehead, neck, chest, back, arms and legs. It is raised and a little dry and it looks like heat rash but she has had it for two weeks now and nothing seems to be clearing it up. I've tried having her only in a diaper, the house cool, I don't use any lotions on her, I changed her bath soap to Burts bees all natural hypoallergenic, and laundry detergent to free and clear. I was using all brand baby before. I have tried oatmeal baths twice but dr said she thought it was ecsema and only bath her once or twice a week. The rash is mostly skin color but gets really pink when she gets hot. Her skin doesn't feel dryed out to me just bumpy texture from the rash

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

She is breastfeeding and I've seen the doctor twice now. The only thing I can find that resembles it is heat rash but I keep her in a diaper most of the day and it isn't getting any better

At one month, she's got to have a doctor's appointment right around the corner. This should be asked there, earlier if it seems to be bothering her. Sounds like baby acne.

I would stop guessing and call the doctor. There are many different types of rashes - diaper rash, yeast rash, allergic reaction, rashes caused by another infection. If it hasn't gone away after a day or so (or it starts to get worse), call the doctor.

I would never put a whole bunch of different products on a newborn - one or more of those could be exacerbating the problem. Babies often get a rash at a few weeks of age - a lot of people call it "baby acne" but it can occur other places. It has to do with the hormones passed to her from you. She may have had something like this and then the products added could have made it worse.

Is she formula fed or breast fed? If formula, I'd look into switching to a different type (e.g. switching out a milk-based for a soy-based one).

You could try washing her clothes and bedding in just water instead of detergent, or switching detergent to a dye-free, fragrance-free brand.

But I think the doctor should take a look at this. You're going frequently at this age anyway. It's just impossible for us to judge from afar.

Could be baby acne or keratosis pilaris.
Neither is serious.
Show the doc.

Sounds like my babies' eczema. It was just dry and raised small bumps (bumpy) like a heat rash. Same places as yours.

Mine got worse if we changed products - took a while to settle down.

The big thing with eczema is to moisturize - I am surprised they didn't give you something for it. Hydrous Emollient - we went through tubs of it. It's a mostly water based thick kind of pasty lotion.

With eczema I actually bathed my babies regularly and then sealed in the moisture their skin absorbed from the bath by coating them in the emollient. It cleared it right up.

I used the free and clear detergent (use sparingly and make sure it's well rinsed out), and we used Aveeno products. We did not do well with Burt's Bees.

Definitely check with her pediatrician. Good luck :)

Is she breastfed or is she on formula? It could be an allergy.

Perhaps it's your soap, your skin stuff. I'd imagine it could be something you're eating too. Maybe she's allergic to what and you live on sandwiches????

Something is there for sure.

Wow, that is tough for a little baby to go through! I would follow the DR advice. I always liked the Aveeno brand soaps, shampoos, oatmeal baths, lotions and the cetaphil lotion for really bad spots. I agree that she should not be bathed much at all right now if she is having these issues. Leave her skin alone as much as possible. Does it bother her? If it is just a "flush" where she gets pinks but it doesn't bother her, she may not need anything special. Is she really fair? My daughter gets flushed a lot but it doesn't bother.

If it bother her or looks painful, I would hit up the doc for a more detailed appointment or referral to dermatologist. Good luck!
